Gregory Allman

This painting of Gregory Allman was commissioned by a client, and was just too epic to not add it to this print series.

I’ve titled it “Gregory” as he’s mentioned that that’s what his true friends called him.

Gregory Allman, born December 8, 1947 was an American rock and blues singer-songwriter, keyboardist, guitarist and a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band. The band was formed in 1969 and based in the Southeastern United States. In the early 1970s, they had major success with the line up of Gregory, his brother Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, and ”Jaimoe”. Gregory was inducted with the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. He was also inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame on September 16, 2006. His distinctive voice places him 70th in the Rolling Stone list of the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time”.  And Gregory received the living legend award at the 10th annual Classic Rock n’ Roll of Honour ceremony Nov. 4, 2014 at the Avalon in Hollywood.

Most often pictured playing the Hammond B-3, Gregory has a preference for a 1969-issue B3 hooked to a Leslie speaker 122RV and he handles much of the lead vocals and songwriting, along with piano and guitar contributions. In the early seventies, he started out on a solo career. The first album, Laid Back, was released in 1973 to a positive critical reception. His recent solo album, Low Country Blues, was produced by T-Bone Burnett and issued in early 2011. It‘s a collection of blues standards and one new song written by him. The album was nominated as the Best Blues Album for the 2011 Grammy Awards.

The photo reference for this piece is from 1979 in NY.
I hope you agree that this Gregory Allman art captures the man we all know and love.

Sadly, on May 27th, 2017, Gregg passed away.
