Neil Young

“Forever Young”

This painting of Neil Young was both highly requested and was long on my list to create given the right inspiration. I jumped into it recently painting Neil with his 1953 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop. Nicknamed Old Black, this is Young’s primary electric guitar and am really pleased with the result.

Neil Young was born November 12, 1945 in Canada and is a singer-songwriter and musician. He began performing in Canada in 1960, then moving to California in 1966, where he co-founded the band Buffalo Springfield together with Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, and later expanded a supergroup to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in 1969. He released his first album in 1968 and has since forged a successful and acclaimed solo career, spanning over 45 years and 35 studio albums, with a continuous and uncompromising exploration of musical styles. Neil has experimented with differing music styles throughout a varied career, including electronic music, acoustic folk-rock, country rock or electric, and amplified hard rock most often with his band Crazy Horse.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes Young as “one of rock and roll’s greatest songwriters and performers”. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame twice, first as a solo artist in 1995, and second as a member of Buffalo Springfield in 1997.

Neil Young is also an environmentalist and outspoken advocate for the welfare of small farmers, having co-founded in 1985 the benefit concert Farm Aid.

Neil Young has started a revolution against the MP3, against the CD, poorly made vinyl and poor audio quality in general. He wants people to hear the music the way it was made, with Pono, (in Hawaiian, the word means righteous or goodness) his new high-quality digital audio system.

I hope you like the energy that I caught in this piece and that you claim it for your own with this high quality giclee print.
