I’m jumping on this heartfelt painting of the Sandcastle Beach Club, on the Fort Myers Beach island in the Southwest Florida Gulf. We sadly lost it to Hurricane Ian 2 yrs. ago, 9/28/22.
The recent decision of us owners to not rebuild has left many with only the fond memories of the yearly vacations in our happy place, and the friends we’ve collected along the way.
I spent a bit of time recently trying to imagine what the perfect view for the painting would be.
I suddenly realized that I've spent 20 some years pool-side, thinking each year about painting what I was seeing from my vantage points...so here we go...finally!!!
This project started with a bit of a posthumous feel to it, but I'm now painting with a total positive attitude, pulling from all the great memories from all the years.
Shown above is a small 9” x 7” pencil sketch which will guide the upcoming 40” x 28” painting. I'll be adding in-progress photos here as I build this original piece.
When completed, 27” x 19” high quality print reproductions will be produced. Only 250 prints will be produced.
My hope is that this painting and the resulting available prints will help to fill the void we are all feeling!

Well, the painting starts with the people...as it should!
Still just roughing in the focal point of the painting!!
Things are starting to look familiar...
Less than half of the painting shown here...waiting for window installations & exterior painting!!
An interesting view as the Sandcastle takes on a bit of dimension.
Maybe 1/4 of the way done!
The rebuild continues...
