Here's a long overdue painting. I'd been searching for a while for the right image to paint from, and then sadly, heard of his passing in July, 2025.
I'm excited to create this art of a guy who captured my attention back with the first Black Sabbath album.
Here's a bit of info on the man...
"Ozzy" Osbourne was a British singer, songwriter, and media personality who became a heavy metal icon. Ozzy rose to prominence in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of the pioneering band Black Sabbath, whose dark and heavy sound has often been cited as key to the development of the heavy metal genre. As the band's lead singer, he helped invent the genre with his dark, doom-laden sound and iconic songs like “War Pigs” and “Iron Man”. Known as the “Prince of Darkness”, Ozzy cultivated a rebellious persona and was known for his “shock rock” antics.
Ozzy began a solo career in the 1980s and formed his band with Randy Rhoads and Bob Daisley. Throughout the decade, he drew controversy for his antics both onstage and offstage. Overall, Osbourne released thirteen solo studio albums, the first seven of which were certified multi-platinum in the United States.
On July 5th, 2025, Ozzy performed his final show with the Back to the Beginning concert in Birmingham, having announced that it would be his last due to health issues.
Although he intended to continue recording music, he died 17 days later on July 22, 2025.
This is the small "color study" pencil sketch which will guide the large 28" x 40" oil painting.
This painting is based off of an epic photo taken of OZZY performing during Ozzfest on August 9th, 2008 at the Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
Thank you to photographer Gary A. Miller for the great shot he's allowed me to paint from. Check him out on Instagram @GaryMillerShoots
I'll be posting photos here of the painting as it progresses.
When completed, I'll be creating 250 19" x 27" High Quality Limited Edition print reproductions.
If you've ordered my work in the past, you know the quality, and know why I can sleep well at night.
The start...
